Campus Master Plan
The 60 Main renovation will enhance and embrace the historic and residential character of the campus, and will create a community dining space that is filled with natural light, fostering openness and connectedness — a hallmark of the Miss Porter’s School community. The interior spaces are envisioned as inviting, open, flexible, durable and, most notably, inclusive, reflecting the important ways in which the facilities reflect the values of Miss Porter’s School.
Off of the lobby will be a student meeting space; faculty and student mailrooms; new bathrooms; and an elevator, enabling the dining facility and servery to be ADA accessible. Downstairs, the project will also include a redesigned entrance in the rear of the building, connecting to a flexible lobby area that will serve as a “student commons.”
An addition will be added to the dining room to enable the entire school to sit together during sit-down dinners, a beloved Porter’s tradition. The renovation of the dining facility will honor the history of the building while creating a contemporary dining space with seating for up to 400, and will create a servery that will improve flow at busy mealtimes.
We have undertaken the services of Centerbrook Architects & Planners, a firm with over four decades of academic project experience and O&G Industries, who will oversee the building and construction services. O&G has previously worked on our campus, completing the renovations to the Grist Mill, home of our Office of Admission. O&G has also completed projects at schools such as Taft and the Gunnery, and is very familiar with the safety protocols of working on a campus while school is in session. The project is anticipated to be completed in March 2021.
